The Chevy Nova
and Nova SS started life as a low budget automobile called the Chevy II
a no frills and no power car, a get you there and back kind of car, no
where near the Muscle Car it was to become. The first two models were the Chevy II’s and the more upscale Chevy Nova both
powered by a inline 6 cy motor with a mere 120 bhp. These cars were
designed with your grandmother in mind and not much more, that’s why
you won’t see it listed on any Muscle Cars for Sale list.
By 1963 the Super Sport package was added which included bucket seats,
deluxe steering wheel, special trim Nova SS wheel covers and
instrumentation. This was the first signs of what eventually would
become one of the fastest Muscle Cars of the 1960’s. In 1964 Chevrolet Nova had a 283 cu. in. V8 with 195 bhp. and in 1965 Chevrolet 327 cu in
With 300 bhp. This
combined with the light weight of the Chevrolet Nova made
it a real sleeper on
the street, not many people realized what was
lurking under the hood until it was to late. The next thing you saw the
Chevrolet Nova tail lights pulling away from you.

be reckoned with. With the small change of adding a low geared rear end
and posi-traction this car could run in low to mid 14’s
at the strip,

Impressive at the time. 1967 was to be the last year of the more boxy style of the Cheverolet Nova Super Sport. 1968 was Not only the year of a more sleek body style but the year that the Chevrolet Nova became a real Giant Killer with the availably of a 396 V8 cid motor with 375 bhp and 11:1 compression on the power stroke.
This along with a big Holly four-barrel, on a aluminum intake, solid
lifters, and free breathing heads gave this Chevrolet Nova Super Sport a
estimated top speed of over 120 mph. By adding a limited differential,
close-ratio four speed transmission, excellent fast-ratio power
steering, and 4:11 or 4:56 gears in the rear end you could expect this Muscle Car to run in the low 14’s for sure. One more added benefit that this Muscle Car had over most other Muscle Cars of that era was the fact that it had a very favorable 45% weight balance to the rear of the car, very uncommon in those days. The Chevrolet Nova Super Sport package included SS badges, simulated hood air intakes, and black-accented grille and tail.

Nova Super Sport Muscle Car for under 3,500 Dollars.
If you have looked on any of the Muscle Cars For Sale listing you know that these some what rare Muscle Cars cost much more than that.
The one person above all that was to bring the Chevrolet Nova Super Sport in to the realm ofMuscle Car supper star was a man named Don Yenko. These track stars of the sixty’s were not like the COPO Camaro’s and
Chevelle’s that came with 427 cid engines installed at the factory,
they were built at the Yenko dealership. Don had the 369 cid V8 engines
removed then replaced them with 425 bhp rated 427 cid motors which fit
the Chevrolet Nova to a tee. The
Yenko Chevrolet Nova Super Sport came
with a Turbo Hydra-matic with Hurst Dual-Gate shifter, or a close-ratio
Muncie four speed with Hurst linkage, connected to a heavy-duty 4.10:1
Posi-traction axle. The outside sported larger 15 inch Atlas mags,
427/Yenko badges, and Yenko stripping inside were the famous "sYc"
headrests. Because these Nova Super Sports were lighter than the Yenko COPO Chevrolet Camaro’s and Chevelle’s this Muscle Car Super Star was
was most certainly the fastest of these three Don Yenko track stars. Add this to the fact that only 37 were built in 1969, if you happen to find on listed as a Muscle Car for Sale buy it if you can you can’t go wrong with this one.
